Introduction
Since the formation of the United States Military Army in 1775, their roles in protecting civilians
all over the world have always been limitless. In a nutshell, the US Military has been involved in
more than 50 significant military actions in less than half a century. The US Military has acted as
policemen of the world since the end of Wold War I. Imagine a world without the US military!
The military has existed to defend the world civilians from barbaric actions of the ruthless
leaders. The US military has existed to protect the national interest; they have existed to fulfill
national military responsibilities (Boot, 2014). In many occasions the US military intervention in
protecting civilians has been faced with a lot of criticism whereby some people see their
intervention as way to interfere with national operations of the country where they have
intervened in.
Thesis statement: the US military has assisted in maintaining the world peace whereby they
have acted as the policemen of the world. They have ensured that the rights of innocent civilians
across all nation is at per with the international standards and providing both humanitarian and
military assistance to war torn countries like in their latest intervention in Libya and Syria.

International events involving the US Military in the past 5 years
In the past five years, the US Military has been involved in several fights with the aim of
protecting the rights of the innocent civilians who by and large are the major victims of the war

whenever any war erupts. In the past five years the US Military has been involved in two wars
including:
A. US Military intervention in Libya
In 2011, the US Military moved in force to force out the atrocities committed by the Muhammad
Gaddafi against the innocent civilians. The US Military moved in to combat the indiscriminate
murder and stockpile of chemical weapons by the then sitting President Gaddafi Army
commonly known as Assad.
B. US Military intervention in Syria
In 2013 the US Military strike on Syria for suspected use of chemical weapons on rebels killing
innocent civilians.
II.
Aspects of US history since 1865 that has led to the rise of US as the super power.
A. Military superiority that has remained unrivaled
United States has ever since invested a great deal in its military that dates back from the year
1775. Their military spending accounts for 37% of global military spending (Costigliola, et al
2016).
B. US Capitalism
The US financial power is one of its main strengths behind the status of world super power. The
US built their strong economic status within less than a century.
C. The American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

The premier intelligence agency of America commonly known as the Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA) has basically guided the United States of America into the echelon of world
superpower.

International incidents since World War II where America has taken on a policing role
A. The Vietnam war
The United States took a policing role in the war between the communist government of North
Vietnam and its allies against South Vietnam and its principle ally US from the year 1954 to
1975.
B. The Civil war in Somalia
The United States Military and United nation peacekeeping forces intervened in 1991 to
maintain peace in Somalia civil war.
C. The Iraqi war which took place from 2003 to 2011
The US intervened in Iraq in a bid to stop them from developing weapons of mass destruction.
