Introduction to Psychology
TED Talks
Below is a list of TED Talks that, in one way or another, touch upon topics and
issues in Psychology. Please choose and watch four of the ten. While you are
encouraged to watch all 10, credit will be allowed for only four.

For each of the four you watch, write a two-page paper that includes:
o A brief summary of the talk
o Your thoughts on the overall point of the message. What is the
speaker trying to say?
o Connect the talk/topic to anything in the textbook that isn’t the
exact topic itself, whether we are covering it in class or not. In
other words, anything in the book is acceptable.
My suggestion is to be creative. By giving you this assignment I am hoping to
encourage you to notice that psychology seeks to understand the
complexities of being human. Everything we study somehow attempts to
explain a facet of being us and how the pieces fit together.
Your papers are due one at a time on the following
o Third Talk Due Wednesday, March 30th
o Fourth Talk Due Wednesday, April 13th
Given the length of time you have to complete the assignment, extensions
will be allowed only under extreme circumstances.
As always, if you have any questions, I am happy to meet with you to
discuss and explain.
The talks
Ben Ambridge: 10 myths about psychology, debunked
Martin Seligman: The new era of positive psychology
Philip Zimbardo: The psychology of evil
Dan Gilbert: The psychology of your future self
Daniel Kahneman: The riddle of experience vs memory
