Expert Answer:Children with Disabilities discussion

Solved by verified expert:In Unit 6, you developed three different research questions that could be addressed using a one-sample, dependent samples, or independent samples t-test. In this week’s Discussion you will expand the research question that should be addressed using the independent samples t-test to include more than two groups (levels).ANOVA Testing: Expand your research question comparing two independent means from Unit 6 and includemore than two groups to compare. Write down your question and why you feel that it is appropriate for a one-way ANOVA test.State Hypotheses: State your null hypothesis and your alternative hypothesis. State the dependent variable, the independent variable and the levels of that variable.Describe Data: Describe the type of data you would collect. What sample size would you use and what would your data look like?Predict Results: Predict the results of your ANOVA test and write out the appropriate conclusion. Using alpha of .05, include a pretend p-value that would justify either accepting or rejecting your null hypothesis. What would you expect from a Post Hoc test given your predicted results from your ANOVA test?

Children with Disabilities
Research Question to Compare a Single Sample Mean to a Known or Hypothesized
Population Mean
Do children with disabilities in 3rd grade have smaller grades than the mean of
children in the entire school?
Null Hypothesis (H0): The grades mean of 3rd-grade children with disabilities is the same
as the grades mean of children in the entire school. (µ1 = µ2).
Alternative Hypothesis (H1): The grades mean of 3rd-grade children with disabilities is
smaller the grades mean of children in the entire school. (µ1 < µ2). The two means we plan to compare in this study are the mean of 3rd-grade children with disabilities grades and the overall mean of grades in the entire school. A one-sample t-test will be used for this research question. Research Question to Compare Dependent Means Will the amount of Applied Behavior Analysis therapy improve the daily living skills in developmental disabilities kids? Null Hypothesis (H0): There will be no improvement in the daily living skills of children
with developmental disabilities.
Alternative Hypothesis (H1): Applied Behavior Analysis therapy will improve the daily
living skills in developmental disabilities kids.
2
The two means we plan to compare in this study are the mean of daily living skills
improvements after six months and after one year. A paired t-test will be used for this
research question as we have two scores for two different scenarios, recorded on the same
sample. The same participants will be part of this study for both measurements.
Research Question to Compare Two Independent Means
Do children with autism have a more reduced prompt dependency when they are
alone than when they are with a therapist?
Null Hypothesis (H0): Children with autism have the same amount of prompt dependency
when they are alone as when they are with a therapist. (µ1 = µ2).
Alternative Hypothesis (H1): The prompt dependency of children with autism differs when
they are alone and when they are with a therapist. (µ1 ≠ µ2).
The two means we plan to compare in this study are the mean of prompt
dependency when the child is with the therapist and the mean of prompt dependency when
the kids are by themselves. An independent samples t-test will be used for this research
question as we have two means of two different samples. The prompt dependence will be
measured by numbering the scenarios in which the autistic child was prompted by the
therapist and also by numbering the situations under video surveillance in which the kid
waited to be prompted. Different patients will participate in the therapist and on the video
surveillance side
Results Prediction
For the single sample mean I will use an alpha value of 0.05 and I expect to reject
the null hypothesis. For the dependent mean comparison, I will also use a 0.05 significance
threshold and I expect to fail in rejecting the null hypothesis. In the last part, for the
3
independent means study, I will use α = 0.01 and I expect to accept the alternative
hypothesis.
