PROJECT DELIVERABLE 1: PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION
2
Introduction:
Background Information of the Company
The company is a small company currently in its growth phase having been in business
for less than two years and is planning to implement 60% growth within one and a half year.
Currently, the company relies on operating system data and web analytics to gather data used in
the decision-making process. It is therefore in the process of leveraging its data collection
process using an IT infrastructure that supports its anticipated growth plan. It would thus require
redesigned hardware and software to meet these expansion need which should be implemented in
a hybrid solution that integrates different technologies and best practices in the industry to
achieve a cost-effective IT system.
The company currently operates with twenty (20) employees of which four (4) are IT,
specialists. The company is an internet-based entity that process and analyze data to provide
reports used in decision-making. Consequently, IT infrastructure is an integral part of its
operations prompting it to rely on web-based tools in data analysis and processing. This IT
system project plan addresses the entity’s growth plan as it intends to increase its floor area of
operation to 3 floors within the next six months. It will capture the need for a cloud computing
technology and the relevant Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) with a high level of security protocols.
Type of Business Activities that the Company is Involved in
The company is a 25 million dollar data collection and analysis business that provides
decision-making support for other organizations. The company undertakes web analytics and
operational systems data to provide online solutions using highly standardized and innovative
techniques. The organization aims to implement a cost-effective strategy to provide high-quality
solutions to various problems (Magrassi, Del Borghi, Gallo, Strazza & Robba, 2016).
PROJECT DELIVERABLE 1: PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION
3
Conversely, it gives priority to its decision-making and synchronization activities using data
gathered from reliable sources.
Outsourcing and Off-Shoring Opportunities
Currently, the data analytic company only controls $25 million business opportunities
within the home country but is planning to expand its business prospects to offshore countries. A
market forecast indicates unlimited offshore opportunities for the company given the fact that
many organizations have embraced internet based solution (Magrassi, Del Borghi, Gallo, Strazza
& Robba, 2016). Conversely, the company has identified numerous entities across the globe that
it would outsource expertise and skills in data analysis to provide cost-effective solutions to its
customers. The outsourcing will increase quality and variety of data used in decision-making due
to the wide array of information used in the process.
A good offshore and outsourcing opportunity is the merger with other foreign companies
to form a strategic alliance that would leverage its data analysis process. The integration of its IT
infrastructure will also lead to a redesigned It infrastructure with the capability of incorporating
cloud computing technologies as well as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). This is a good
opportunity of leveraging the data gathered as it plans to implement its growth opportunities
(Pearlson, Saunders & Galletta, 2016).
The accurate repository data obtained from this strategic alliance will facilitate the
provision of accurate solutions to various problems of a business entity. Through this strategic
alliance, the company will fully own the data sources and eliminate the need to outsource for
data in the offshoring opportunities during its expansion. By individually collecting data, the
company will increase its market base by 27% thus increasing its revenue generation.

IT system.
Types of Data that the Company Collects
The types of data that would be gathered during this process include SP-Based data to
ascertain the network traffic. Panel-based data would be gathered to provide information on the
internet-user data.
The Current Information Systems of the Company
Currently, the company operates information systems that support its business activities
and provisions of decision-making solutions to various business problems.
Operational Systems and Databases
PROJECT DELIVERABLE 1: PROJECT PLAN INCEPTION
5
In its daily activities of processing various data gathered from across the world, the
company relies on operational systems and database. Essentially, the business entity prefers a
relational database used in storing less amount of information because it does not store raw data
gathered from the field before it is processed (Pearlson, Saunders & Galletta, 2016). The
operating system and the database are run using a fast-speed internet and supported by the
infrastructure to facilitate the smooth working of the systems.
Analytics and Interfaces
The first analytical interface is the Management Information System which enables the
company to manage its activities and processes. The MIS’s front end relies on a PHP while the
back end is Oracle enabled to facilitate retrieval, analysis, and proceeding of information
(Laudon & Laudon, 2015). Authentication and encryption security protocols are used to
safeguard the CIA of the data in this MIS.
The second analytical interface is the web-based Decision Support System that provide a
solution for various business problems. Equally, the company has implemented an effective Data
Analysis System to analyze data and generate a report in various (Chan, Song, Sarker & Plumlee,
2017). The planned merger will necessitate a data warehousing for the huge repository of data to
reduce the cost of the relational databases that are currently in use. In addition, the business
entity looks forward to implementing the cloud technology and virtualization to minimize the
space used data collection and create a data repository that is accessible by multiple users
(Albright & Wayne, 2015). The cloud computing will enhance data security in case of system
failures and thus facilitate continuous operation.
Infrastructure and Security
Since the company is planning to implement cloud computing, there is a need to enhance
proper security protocols to secure the data and information in the various databases and

operating systems. To begin with, the company will implement secured protocols and firewalls,
encryption, password policies, and authentication procedures when accessing, retrieving,
manipulation, and sharing the data in the entity’s database (Laudon & Laudon, 2015). The
merger will also necessitate expansion of the company’s wireless network to accommodate the
additional floors by acquiring new software and hardware. The wireless network may also
require more connectivity to link the cloud computing and data warehousing aspects of the
network to its business activities.
The network infrastructure will have configurations comprising of hardware requirements
such as 3G RAM, at least PIII Supported Motherboard with 568 MHZ Pentium processor is
required. ROM of 40 GB SATA, and a 1024*768, 32 Bit CPU the software requirements include
a Windows XP Professional. For proper installation, the company would require Xampp 1.6
software, a FileZilla FTP, an Apache 2.2.3, a Zend Optimizer 3.0.2, a MySQL 5.0.27, an SQLite
2.8.15, an Open SSL 0.9.8d, a phpMyAdmin 2.9.1.1, and a Server 0.9.20.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the internet-based company will be forced to redesign its IT infrastructure
and network if it intends to achieve its goal of growing by 60% over the next eighteen (18)
months. Besides, the company must consider exploiting its offshore opportunities and the
outsourcing strategy to supplement its current Web analytics and operational systems data. This
strategy will help the firm to leverage its data collection process to cope with its planned
expansion to three (3) floors. A hybrid based IT infrastructure will help the firm to integrate
different technologies to achieve the best practices which are cost-effective. A combination of a
cloud computing technology and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) with proper security protocols
will integrate well with the planned merger to create a strong strategic alliance. Thus, the
company stands a good chance of expanding its market share and revenue.

PROJECT DELIVERABLE 2: BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS

Executive Summary
This Business Requirements Document (BRD) in details highlights the requirements
needed by the DGT Data Analytica (DDA) in its project aimed at creating a data repository. The
document contains user elicited requirements which form the functional requirements and
infrastructural requirements also known as non-functional requirements. Also covered in the
document is an overview of ongoing processes besides the suggested process immediately the
solution is fully implemented. This document, therefore, has provided answers to what needs to
be undertaken while also issuing a starting point to design solution.
Project Description
DDA is a data collection and analysis company which has been in an active state for
almost two years. In response to the demands associated with exponential growths, the company
seeks to develop data repository to increase efficiency with which data is mined, reported,
analyzed and shared. Data repository has become an essential tool both in scientific research and
business management in equal measure. The challenges of over-reliance on relational databases
such as limited scalability and decentralization in the management of data form inspiring motive
in finding a solution which is a data repository. The company currently depends on a 10 terabyte
data warehouse which is projected to experience a 20% annual expansion.
Project Scope
Data is the core commodity that DDA Company trades in. Naturally, manipulation of a
commodity that occupies the nuclear portion of an organization’s operations deserves fluidity
and utmost efficiency. DDA Company, therefore, seeks to bridge a gap that for far too long has
been present between data storage and data sharing. In a more relatable manner, data storage has
been relegated to keeping data in a favorable format and having a backup mechanism to it.
PROJECT DELIVERABLE 2: BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS
4
Sharing, on the other hand, has been via email or some portable electronic gadgets. Databases
management (DBM) software then brought some short-lived relief in the form of enabling
sharing of data at local levels and access to the same data in the useful state anytime but also at
the local level.
In scope
Excellent data repository to be constructed by DDA Company must now overcome the
challenges of database management systems by being able to capture large volumes of data at
source points and as generated. The magic does not end there, without worries of which directory
to save data in, when it is possible to save successfully and where the data came from, the
repository only demands a single instantiation, grab the file and store it. In its least contextual
form, it automatically backs-up and exposes it to the pool of research group via a basic aid of
web service (Honebein, 2018). In its literal operation, it borrows heavily from the Dropbox
system of operation which automatically synchronizes own user data over multiple devices hence
access is simultaneously granted after provision of authentic credentials.
Another magic the repository is to bring forth is its ability to take in basic configurations
on each device used to put together a target directory and admits a file-type. This helps the
system to recognize what computational process or device a given file originated from. In an
attempt to recognize the who (from who the file comes from), which turns out to be a bit
complex process, involves a combination of active delegated directories seamlessly comparing
login credentials while synching at the same time. As many users actively interact with the
repository system, they increase data capture thus improving metadata volume available for
sharing and accessing (Walsh, 2019). While all these are taking place, automatic back up also

runs parallel. The simple web action helps in constant backup, updating data to its latest format
and seamless sharing among users themselves.
Controls
The data repository has the ability to advance restrictions to exclusive files. Such is
possible through encryption and decryption functions where a file is enciphered to hide the
meaning of its contents can only be deciphered by a user who knows its decrypting code.
Controls are also exercised by each user through authentic login credentials. Such help in
limiting sharing and unwarranted access.
The company data warehouse being 10 TB in memory size and is projected to expand by
20% annually, the data repository system has to find a way of managing such a phenomenon.
One obvious method is through the use of FIFO-LA algorithm (Bacalzo, Kreuch, & Seaman,
2018). In this case, data files that were first to be saved into the memory disks with and has the
least number of access and sharing rates on them are the first ones to be disposed of through
deletion function.
Possible Risks, Constraints, and Assumptions
Technological solutions undoubtedly have unique abilities to bridge gaps that have
existed in previous dispensations. However, the price of ultimate reliance on technology aided
protocols, systems and processes are obviously costly. Similar to other information systems, data
repository system can equally be compromised through hacking, susceptible to challenges of
web downtimes and can also be tailored to serve specific interests better than overall interests.
Ideally, the document outlines an ideal functioning environment that usual human errors,
natural environment misgivings, and other limiting factors. There are a number of assumptions
PROJECT DELIVERABLE 2: BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS
6
such as all users of the system are assumed to be homogenous in character and intentions, and
the company data warehouse of 10 terabytes will exactly experience annual growth of 20% from
which all the ideas presented are found on.
The relationship and integration between systems and infrastructure
The Current Process
The current company processes only rely on a simple relational database technology
managed by a centralized database management system. The system set up in archaic sense
originates from user data entry level then terminates at the 10 TB company data warehouse. The
architecture, therefore, limits data mining, sharing and access between users (Delisle, Guiney &
Greiner, 2018). Data sharing among user is managed through a local area network (LAN)
containing servers and workstations and other shared resources. Backup is remotely done by
each user.
The Proposed Process
The company intends to overhaul the LAN dependent architecture of a database
management system and replace it with a more robust data repository system but maintains the
10 TB data warehouse. The new system enables for massive sharing of files, seamless access,
constant cloud technology aided backing up and highly secure. The entire infrastructure of the
proposed system lays much emphasis on efficient, elaborate and massive data capture
(voluminous metadata) from its point of generation, storage and readily accessible to a large pool
of authentic company researchers at an instance. At the user interface level, there are only few
web forms for login into the system.
