Teaching is a very noble job. It is not the kind of job that makes the employee bored or tired
for teachers face new situations and challenges each single day. However, what may be

their career (Ingersoll, 2012).
This is a serious issue for it not only affects teachers themselves but also their students. What
attitudes teachers have and how they feel about themselves, their students, the target culture,
and its language affect their and their students’ performance in the classroom (Chastain,
1988). If both the teacher’s attitudes and emotions are positive, the quality of teaching and
learning will consequently be positive. In addition, according to Brown (2001), teachers who
have motivation and positive attitudes towards teaching have much better chances to create a
positive atmosphere and bonds in the classroom, make learning easier, provide feedback,
which all consequently leads to a higher level of teaching quality. According to Ulug,
Ozden, & Eryilmaz (2011), not only teachers’ positive attitudes affect students, but also the
negative ones. They negatively affect students’ personality development and academic
performance. Teachers are the second most influencing factor in the students’ development
after their parents for teachers are supposed to be role models. Thus, the teacher being
motivated, passionate, active, and with positive attitudes help students succeed more.
This burnout can be overwhelmed in many ways. First, time management plays a major role
in reducing the teachers’ tiredness and boredom. A full school day consists of eight periods,
and each teacher hypothetically teaches during four periods which means that teachers have
some free periods in which they can fulfill the work they wish to do outside the classroom
and take more rest at home. Second, having more preparation time helps teachers become
more ready to perform well in the classroom. This helps both teachers and students to
interact more positively with each other, which in consequence helps becomes more
motivated. Third, keeping positive attitudes towards the profession keeps teachers constantly
motivated and less stressed. Attending motivational speeches, courses, lectures, or
workshops between a time and another gives teachers a push to continue their teaching with a
high motivation. Forth, this teacher says that it is difficult to watch every student, and being
closer to students and asking help from others help challenging this difficulty. One way to
defeat this issue is to create positive relationships between teachers and their students push
them to tell their teachers about their points of strength and weakness, which eventually helps
teachers to deal with each student in the most appropriate way. Another way is to use “young
teacher” strategy. It is basically to let a high achieving student to help a less achieving
student when needed, which reduces the pressure of watching every single student. One last
way is to seek help from parents to help teachers know different information about their
students, which is very helpful in dealing with each student appropriately. Fifth, some
students’ boredom increases when less technology is used, which makes it essential for
todays’ teachers to be updated with new technologies.
For sure I would not agree with my colleagues because it is clear from the scenario
that this student suffers from something that his classmates do not suffer from. Those
teachers should deeply understand diversity in the classroom and know how to best utilize it.
They should show their students that they believe in them and expect them all to succeed
regardless of how different they are. They should also stop viewing this particular student as
“the other” but rather as a unique person who faces challenges but can defeat them.
Basically, diversity should no more be seen as a problem for I think, the more diverse is a
classroom, the more students learn there. It is important to respect and consider each student
in the classroom because if this is not achieved, students will feel disconnected and disliked,
and they will eventually be less interested in the class. In addition, such students well have
less focus, participation, and self-esteem.
To be more specific, based on the symptoms given in the scenario, this student probably has
dyslexia which is a learning disability.
This means that the student is not a “failure” but rather someone who struggles and needs
assistance. As his teacher, I would not see his situation from the angel that my colleagues see
him from. I would rather help him and try making him feel and achieve better. First, I would
respect this student, treat him equally, give him attention, and show him that I believe in him
and his ability to succeed. Otherwise, his self-esteem will be low and consequently he will
lose his interest in the classroom, which I believe is a drawback on the teacher’s side.
Second, to help this student move the information from his short term memory, which is
probably weak, to his long term memory, I would write an outline of the lesson before I start
discussing it, and I would end the lesson with a summary of it. Third, when I ask the students
to do homework, I would check if this student correctly writes down the homework question.
In addition, it would be good to advise this student to take his friends’ phone numbers so that
he contacts them if he gets any question about the homework. Forth, it is good to make an
everyday checklist for thus student in order for him to follow up his academic work
appropriately. This would help the student become more accountable and self-reliant. Fifth,
I would get this student a portfolio that is divided into parts so that he organizes his papers
there and then easily finds what he needs later. Sixth, it would be difficult for this child to
follow up long tasks, thus it is important to divide a long task into smaller easily remembered
parts. Seventh, setting this student near me would allow me to give him assistance
immediately when needed. Also, I would assign a classmate, who is really willing to help, to
sit beside him to provide support. Eighth, when writing on the board, I would use a variety of
colors, write with enough spaces between the words, write in a clear handwriting, and leave
what is written for enough time for the student to copy it. Ninth, I would encourage the
student to practice reading a text at home before reading it aloud in classroom so that his selfesteem increases. It is important to note that asking the student to read aloud without being
prepared will threaten his confidence, but if necessary, I would ask him to read in front of me
only to avoid embarrassing him.
Those teachers are probably stuck behind, due to the absence of lifelong learning. It is the
most essential component when it comes to teaching 21st century learners. Teachers should
be lifelong learners to avoid providing old fashioned and monotonous teaching. Besides,
there are many benefits for lifelong learning for teachers, which I think will make me
different than those teachers ten years later. First, lifelong learning helps teachers face
challenges. Learning teachers have access to a huge amount of information that helps them
tackle their career problems, using different resources such as new books, internet, and social
media. Those teachers take the advantage of not seeing challenges as failures but as an
inseparable part of their learning procedure instead. Second, it helps teachers develop in their
careers for the best learning occurs on the career itself. Lifelong learning teachers are those
who welcome learning from their colleagues, their students, and parents. If teachers are not
willing to do so, they will remain ones who do not accept information except from books and
lectures, which leaves them behind. Third, it makes it easier for major transitions on the
career to take place. Flexibility is one of the essential traits of lifelong leaning teachers for
education is never a stable process. For example, students and rules and regulations change
constantly, thus teachers need to be flexible in order to deal with such changes smoothly. An
example of on-job transitions is turning students to be lifelong learners. This aim requires the
teacher to be a good model in lifelong learning. If this is done, it well become much easier to
make those students adapt lifelong learning as a daily habit smoothly without feeling
pressured to do it so at any stage of their academic lives. In Oman, many students realize the
importance of lifelong learning at once when they are adults, which makes it difficult for
them to become lifelong learners. However, when lifelong learning is instilled on them
gradually, their awareness towards lifelong learning will continuously increase. Forth, it
fosters creativity. Lifelong learning teachers always find methods and strategies to apply for
their students in classrooms, and are no more limited to the common curricula. They have
access to information and experiences of other teachers from all around the world, which
gives them a better insight on their own teaching. They have enough bases for them to build
on their own thoughts and contributions to create their own innovations in teaching. Besides,
using technology, as a crucial component in 21st century learners’ lives, fosters teachers’
creativity. The internet, as an example, enables them to effectively interact with other
teachers from different places in the world in one platform via online forums or groups.
I can develop my lifelong learning skills in many ways. For instance, I should keep reading
books, surf the internet, and read research especially on my domain. I should also keep
sharing my own experiences in education and know about other teachers’ experiences. This
can be easily done in meetings or online groups and blogs. Also, it is good to continuously
attend seminars on education, management, and educational psychology.
Students’ poor performance does not mean that those students are stupid. Every person is
unique, and the word “stupid” should not be used to describe any student. What should be
done to address the problem goes through three stages. First, I should brainstorm and search
about the reasons causing poor academic performance in tests and continuous assessment.
Amongst those reasons are family problems. For example, the poor achieving students may
have come from divorced parents or lost a family member. They may be also facing financial
problems. In addition, the students’ relationships with their parents can determine the degree
to which the parents care about the students’ academic level. Another reason may be a
negative surrounding environment, where many crimes occur, and negative perceptions and
attitudes towards education are shared. Students, who live in such environments, may not
feel encouraged to study and perform well; thus they may become less motivated. In
addition, students’ poor health conditions can be one of the most serious reasons for poor
academic achievements. It is not only about physical health but also mental health, including
mental disorders and learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Furthermore, the test itself may
fail to measure the individual differences and make the questions doable for all students.
Also, the problem may come from the teacher herself in case she needs more experience and
knowledge related to her field. For example, the teaching methods that the teacher uses may
not meet the learning styles of the students.
Second, I need to design a questionnaire which covers all the mentioned reasons above and
leaves a space for the students to write the reason if it is not included. Third, after collecting
the questionnaires, analysis should be done. Based on that analysis, I should provide
solutions that will help all students improve their academic performance. For students who
face family problems, I with the help of the school’s social worker will talk to their parents in
order to make the house a much secure place for students. Also, students who have health
problems should receive the appropriate care by a mutual collaboration between the school’s
nurse and the parents. However, it is my responsibility in the first place to help those who
have learning disabilities by dealing with each case in the most appropriate way. In case the
case needs more help than what I can offer, I will talk to the parents and school
administration to provide a specialist to help the student. In addition, I need to revise and
analyze the tests I designed in order to find if there are any weaknesses I can address such as
problems in questions’ formation or level. Finally, my own performance in the classroom
needs to be evaluated, either by self-evaluation or peer-evaluation. Those kinds of feedback
aids in my continuous development as a teacher and helps me identify what point of strength
I have, and what weakness points I need to work on. In addition, this feedback helps
evaluating my teaching methods to measure whether there is enough variation in them which
makes them effective for all, because I can never guarantee that one method suits all students,
especially those with special needs.

should work for the common purposes of the school.

organizing meetings for teachers to discuss teaching-related issues plays a major role in
taking more wise decisions and sharing experience.
Teachers’ collaboration is not an event, but they need to collaborate with each other in a daily
basis. I need to initiate teaching my colleagues whatever can benefit them and they are
ignorant of. Also, when designing lesson plans, two minds are better than one. Working
together helps designing well planned lesson plans. In addition, I need to share what
techniques better work with my students and to share their experiences with my colleagues.
Moreover, teaching thoughts in general can be shared in a blog when teachers do not have
enough time to talk at work, and then receive feedback. Also, it is very important to work
collaboratively when working on big projects so that efforts and thoughts are gathered.
Furthermore, I keep my doors open for my colleagues to come and talk. It may also be a
good idea if I merge my classroom with another one so that students and teachers get an
opportunity to work with each other.
Cooperation is not only with the administration or other teachers, but also with students and
their parents. I always emphasize the fact that unlike what many students think to be correct,
sharing and cooperation increases one’s opportunities to succeed. I encourage students to
work cooperatively and help each other in class using some strategies such as “the young
teacher strategy,” by which a high achieving student helps a lower achieving student in a
friendly way. Parents should also be engaged in the whole process of education. Teachers
need to organize meetings with parents so that there becomes mutual sharing of information
about students. Parents play the major role in raising their children, thus their collaboration
makes a huge difference.
Overall, cooperation between stakeholders leads to the success of them as individuals and of
the school itself. Since school is an inseparable part of the community, its success means that
its positive contributions in the community increases. Basically, collaboration creates
innovative and safe educational environment.
It takes a village to raise a child; a proverb that shows the importance of parents and
community collaboration to raise and educate a child. School alone is never enough when
qualitative education is targeted. Research on this area indicates that parents’ involvement
has a positive impact on their children education. Students are found to have regular
attendance to school, higher academic achievement and self-esteem, better behavior,
communication skills, and relationships, complete homework, and finally more opportunities
to enroll in higher education. Thus, it becomes obvious that I acknowledge and believe in the
importance of the partnership between school, parents or families, and community in raising
children. However, I think this school needs to take several steps to make this partnership
practical, important, and effective.
Parents can provide valuable information that help teachers improve the quality of their
teaching and give them more opportunities to understand their students and help them
perform better not only academically, but also morally and behaviorally. For example,
teachers can help low achieving students by addressing their academic problems for their
parents so that they focus on the addressed topics when they help their children to study.
Also, when facing misbehaving students, teachers can contact the parents to give them more
information about their social background and the possible reasons of misbehavior so that
teachers can then decide on how to address the problem.
The whole process of engaging parents, families, and communities in their children education
needs to be well studied and planned. Thus, it is essential to take the first step which is to
survey parents and their children’s needs before any decision is taken. Such surveys not only
provide the needs, but also supply the school with suggestions and creative ideas by which
this partnership is going to succeed. Also, part of parents’ needs is their complaints; some of
them complain that teachers ask them to provide facilities and services they cannot really
afford for their children. For example, some teachers ask parents to teach their kids for a
particular number of hours, while parents do not have enough time to do so, or to buy stories
for the kids while parents do not have enough money. Other parents complain that the school
does not have contact with them unless their children have done a problem regarding
academic performance or behavior. In addition, some parents say that they do not attend
meetings in school for they do not have transportation. One more complain is that many
parents especially mothers do not attend school events because they have no nannies or
somebody to take care of their babies until they are back home. The second step is to offer
training workshops or programs for all stakeholders including teachers and parents on how to
develop communicative skills when it comes to this kind of partnership. The third step is to
