Your group of 4-5 people will work together over the four to five weeks to develop
a reality TV show that will address a real problem facing people over the age of
18. You may choose any genre of reality TV for your project. Your group’s task is
to make a persuasive group presentation selling your show to a network (our
class). Your group’s presentation must identify the problem while also helping
the network to increase its ratings by appealing to a large audience who can

Your group will have class time to work on your project tasks throughout the four
to five weeks. These tasks will include brainstorming problems of your peers,
reviewing concepts for reality shows that would appeal to your target audience,
and working through the stages of how groups form and operate.

benefits of working in a diverse group. Each group member will identify and
discuss at least three attributes associated with working in a diverse group. The
paper will highlight from each member’s perspective what he/she can do to
improve their effectiveness when working in a group.
Name for your group: Create a creative name for your production
company and reality TV show.
Advertisement: Your group is responsible for developing an
advertisement for your TV show. The advertisement can be a handout, posters
(larger enough for the entire audience to see when hanging on the board-using
dark colored ink and large lettering). You may choose to use power point. All
groups will be responsible for ONE advertisement/ visual aids.
Research and supporting evidence: Your presentation must contain
supporting evidence which must be STATED during your presentation. Each
group member is responsible for ONE supporting source to be stated during their
4-6 minute individual presentation. Supporting evidence considered acceptable
for this project would be: quotes or statistics from credible sources such as
academic journals, books, popular press, or certain web sites. Web sites that
may be used cannot end in “.com” unless they are from a major news
organization or similarly known foundation. Wikipedia is not considered a reliable
source. No more than two web sites may be used to satisfy your personal
research requirement. People or interviews that you have conducted are also not
considered acceptable for this project. All research will be graded prior to your
Style and Creativity: All presentations should have a natural flow from
one speaker to the next. It is imperative that your group have an introduction,
transitions, and a group conclusion to produce a good flow to your presentation.
Have a theme that links all individual’s speeches to the overall group message.
Time limit: Each group has no more than 15 minutes to present their
proposal. Your minimum time is 12 minutes. You will be stopped at 15 minutes.
Each person in the group has to speak for an equal amount of time. Each
member of the group must have an established major role in your presentation—
a member cannot just be responsible for the introduction and conclusion (points
for the introduction and conclusion are for the group only, not individuals). Timing
is essential for a good grade – less than 12 minutes and more than 15 minutes
will lower your individual grade – PRACTICE!
Group evaluation: Each group will be responsible for completing a 3-5
page typewritten paper detailing the workings of their group. (12 point
font, double spaced, and one inch margin all around) This paper
should include an honest evaluation of each of your group members
along with the following:
a. Norms and Roles—identify your group’s norms. Discuss any
deviation from these norms. Discuss the distribution of task, and
b. Leadership—Who was the leader? Discuss and analyze the
leadership in your group.
c. Group Outcomes—Discuss how effectively or ineffectively the
group performed. What strategies could you use to improve group
Grading: This project has many components. The complete project will be
worth 100 points-each component will be worth 20%.
