ETHICS PAPER ASSIGMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Students will write a 5- to 7-page (excluding the title page, abstract, and references- so ten pages
total) paper discussing a case vignette provided by the instructor and integrating relevant
information from a journal article(s) assigned by the instructor. This paper will be written in
stages.
1. Students will independently read and analyze an assigned journal article and submit a
journal assignment in response to that analysis
2. Students will write and submit a thesis statement based on that analysis
3. Student will develop and submit an outline of the paper
4. Students will write their paper and bring Draft One for an in class peer review
5. Students will revise their paper and submit Draft Two
6. Students will meet individually with the instructor to review Draft Two
7. Students will submit their final paper
In Reamer’s article on boundary issues in social work, he identifies 5 different classes of
boundary issues, distinguishing problematic boundaries from those that are not, and offers
guidelines for practitioners to manage boundary issues that they encounter during their practice.
Apply key concepts from Reamer’s article and the NASW Code of Ethics to three examples of
boundary issues/violations identified in the case scenario provided by the professor.
ASSIGNMENT FORMAT
Both of your draft papers as well as your final paper must conform to APA format. You will
need a title page with a running head, an abstract, in-text citations, and a reference page.
